Chrysocolla is a copper-based ore. Its name comes from the Greek chrysos and kolla, meaning ‘gold’ and ‘glue’, in reference to the material used to solder gold. The hardness of the material varies, dependant on the amount of silica incorporated into the stone when it formed.
