Labradorite was first discovered near Labrador, Canada, in 1770. It is a feldspar of the plagioclase family and is found in igneous rocks. The flash of colour seen in labradorite is called ‘labradorescence‘ and is due to the light hitting planes within the stone, reflecting back colour.
